Broad River Announces Two New SVPs

Broad River Furniture, a licensee of Ashley HomeStore, announces the immediate promotions of two current members of its executive management team from Vice President to Senior Vice President and minority shareholders. Manny Rodrigues is being promoted from Vice President, Human Capital, to Senior Vice President, Human Capital and minority shareholder. Charlie Workmon is being promoted from Vice President, Operations, to Senior Vice President, Operations and minority shareholder. Both will continue to report directly to Charlie Malouf, President and CEO.

Rodrigues joined Broad River Furniture in November 2014 as Director of Talent and was promoted to Vice President of its newly named Human Capital Department in July 2015. Prior to joining Broad River, Rodrigues led talent acquisition organizations at Liberty Mutual Insurance, Bank of America and Enterprise Rent A Car. A native of Rhode Island, Rodrigues moved to Charlotte, NC, in 2003 as a key member of the Johnson & Wales University team. As their Director of International Relations, Rodrigues traveled to over 30 countries establishing relationship and educational partnerships with the University.

Rodrigues received his undergraduate degree in International Business and Finance from Johnson & Wales University, Providence Campus. He studied Economics at the University of Milan, Italy, and is multilingual. In 2009, Rodrigues was inducted into the Johnson & Wales University, College of Business Hall of Fame for his success and leadership in the Human Resource field. Rodrigues currently serves on the Leadership Development committee for the national retail arm of Ashley Furniture.

Rodrigues oversees Broad River’s talent acquisition strategies, learning & development strategies, benefits & payroll, team member engagement, and safety efforts. Under Rodrigues’ leadership, Broad River has gained significant savings in its benefits and insurance premiums, record-breaking achievements in workplace safety, and key accomplishments in talent acquisition initiatives.

“We are in the People business, and our People are our greatest asset. There is no one I’d rather have overseeing our People strategy than Manny Rodrigues. We have had significant advancements in key performance indicators under Manny’s leadership, including low turnover, improved Associate Experience, increased safety, and significant savings in benefits and insurance premiums. Manny has built a very strong Human Capital team, and a few of the several key achievements over the past year have been the launch of Career Paths in every department, Retail Performance Standards, and our Home Furnishings Experts program. We are exceeding our objectives with all aspects of Talent (Recruitment, Development and Retention). Manny has been vitally important in guiding us to a recognition and performance-based Company culture. The culture at Broad River has never been stronger, and it will only continue to improve under Manny’s leadership in his new role as SVP, Human Capital,” said Charlie Malouf.

“Today is a special day for our families, and I am extremely humbled and proud to be joining Jonathan Ishee, Charlie Malouf, and Charlie Workmon as shareholders at Broad River Furniture. As I reflect on 2016, I am so thankful to all of my Broad River teammates for their collective contributions, moving us closer everyday to our mission of becoming an excellent home furnishings Company. As I look ahead at 2017, I am encouraged by the passion and purpose on display everyday here at Broad River,” said Rodrigues.

Workmon joined Broad River Furniture in January 2015 as Sr. Director of Transportation and was promoted to Vice President of Operations in August 2015. Workmon attended the University of
Mississippi and has a wealth of experience and best practices in home delivery and distribution gleaned from his 20 years of experience with retailers and manufacturers. Having worked on delivery trucks, in warehouse operations and dispatching, he literally grew up in the distribution business.

Prior to joining Broad River, Workmon served as the Director of Business Development for XPO Last Mile in Marietta, GA, where he developed solutions for several major home furnishings retailers including Nebraska Furniture Mart, Ethan Allen, Bob’s Discount Furniture, Macy’s, and other Ashley HomeStore licensees.

Workmon currently oversees all aspects of Broad River’s Operations and Transportation departments, which include Inventory, Billing and Returns, Warehouse, Shop, In-Home Service, Transportation, and Home Delivery.

“A home furnishings retailer cannot be successful without having a reliable and strong Operation that focuses on sales support. Much of Broad River’s recent success is due to the leadership and production from Charlie Workmon. He has continued to lead huge improvements in our KPIs, such as inventory integrity and productive piece rate, to all-time highs while concurrently driving down our costs. He has made life easier for our retail teams because of the dependability in our Operation, which has also led to more predictable financial results. A few of Charlie’s key successes in his role as VP of Operations have been our conversion to a new last mile provider in August 2015; our record-breaking inventory integrity improvements; vast improvements in our home delivery service as measured by our productive piece rate KPI; our significant reduction in returns; significant reduction in operating expenses in our DC; and our implementation and adoption of lean strategies throughout the operation. We are incredibly blessed to have someone of Charlie Workmon’s enormous talents, experience and skillsets leading our Operations. He is a one-of-a-kind talent and the sky is the limit for what we will achieve together,” said Malouf.

“I’m proud and very grateful to have been invited to join Jonathan Ishee, Charlie Malouf and Manny Rodrigues as shareholders at Broad River Furniture. I’m prouder still of our team and all that we’ve accomplished in 2016. Our company has experienced a rebirth and is closer than ever to our mission of being an excellent home furnishings Company. Alongside a stellar leadership team and exciting employees – top to bottom – I’m looking forward to continuing our journey toward excellence in the years to come,” said Workmon.

“We have a tremendous senior management team, and we believe that these changes only further strengthen and solidify our leadership team and our Company. Last year was a banner year in our
Company’s history, and Manny Rodrigues and Charlie Workmon were vitally important contributors to this success. This announcement does not represent any material change in our Company’s strategic direction. Instead, it only reinforces our vote of confidence in the strategic direction of our Company and in our team’s ability to produce exceptional financial results,” stated Jonathan Ishee, Executive Chairman and Founder, in making the announcement.

“We are relentlessly focused on improving upon an exceptional 2016 with an even stronger performance in 2017. Both Jonathan and I look forward to what our entire Broad River family can accomplish together as we move forward,” commented Malouf.
