Broad River Furniture, a licensee of Ashley HomeStores, announces that the Company recently awarded a $10,000 sponsorship grant to SEED20, a Charlotte-based program created by Social Venture Partners that identifies, spotlights and supports the region’s most innovative ideas for tackling pressing social challenges.
The grant was partially used to fund the annual SEED20 OnStage event, which spotlights the top ten of twenty nonprofit finalists. After training, coaching and mentoring by local leaders, the finalists selected each year are offered the opportunity to compete for cash awards by pitching their concepts to a panel of judges and a public audience. Attendance at this year’s March 27 event was the largest ever, at 900 community members, and a prize pool of $46,000 was donated to the five winning organizations. As has been the post-event custom, all twenty participating groups along with the audience celebrated the winners while networking and interacting with all attendees to educate them about the various organizations represented by these social entrepreneurs.
Susan Daniel, Executive Director of Social Venture Partners (SVP), reports that the 20 nonprofit participants have received over 300 new connections and $15,700 in donations since their presentations. “Statistics that stand out to us from our post-event survey are that 79% of attendees visited one or more of the nonprofit tables, with another 7% planning to make contact at a later date. 73% have helped or plan to help one of the nonprofits, and 57% have donated or plan to donate to one of them. This level of engagement is gratifying and will make such a difference for these nonprofits. We are grateful for this support, “ she commented.
“It is truly an honor for us to join with area businesses in supporting SEED20. We applaud these social entrepreneurs who are focused on addressing the issues of social and economic inequality in our region, and we also applaud SVP and the SEED20 program for mentoring and training a new generation of leaders in our community,” explained Jonathan Ishee, Broad River’s Executive Chairman and Founder, in making the announcement. Ishee is an SVP Partner and has served as a coach and mentor for SEED20 in prior years.
“This was our third year to sponsor SEED20, and we think of it as a Shark Tank for Charlotte nonprofits. The caliber of the concepts presented and the individuals who lead these upstarts is quite impressive. We are very proud to be affiliated with such outstanding groups who are sincerely seeking to enrich our community, and we look forward to the positive impact of their efforts for years to come,” added Charlie Malouf, Broad River’s President and CEO.
