Release Date: April 19, 2018
Broad River Retail, a licensee of Ashley HomeStore, announces it will donate a mattress for every mattress sold in its Charlotte area stores through Monday, April 30.
The “Buy a Mattress, We’ll Give a Mattress” campaign begins today and includes the Company’s Ashley HomeStores in Pineville, University City, Mooresville, Kannapolis, Hickory, Gastonia, and the Charlotte Outlet store. The campaign will be promoted with a newspaper insert, social media, e-blasts to the Company’s customers and various in-store elements to raise awareness. For the first time, the Company is providing all guests with the opportunity to add a donation to Charlotte-based non-for-profit Beds for Kids to their purchase, or simply make a donation without a sales transaction, in an effort to increase funds donated for purchasing more beds.
“The ever-increasing need in our Charlotte community to provide beds for children who need them has as prompted us once again to embark on this aggressive campaign to increase the number of
mattresses we can provide, “explained Charlie Malouf, Broad River‘s President and CEO. “We want to help Beds for Kids eradicate this need, one bed donation at a time,” commented Malouf.
“We intend for this spring campaign to increase awareness of the severe need in our area. Many Charlotteans are completely unaware that we actually have children right here sleeping on the floor or sofa or with other family members, and that figure exceeds 7,500 children– some have said it’s over 15,000. By bringing attention to this need in a more visible way, we hope to motivate our customers to help us give a bed to a child when they replace at least one aging bed in their home. We also hope our customers who are purchasing only furniture or accessories will find it in their hearts to make a donation to Beds for Kids,” Malouf commented. Employees of the Company will volunteer in May to help deliver the beds.
“The opportunity to serve personally brings as much joy to us as it does to the children and families we serve,” stated Karen McKenzie, Broad River’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications. “Since 2011 we’ve donated a portion of every mattress sale to a fund used to purchase mattresses for Beds for Kids, but during this particular three-week one-for-one campaign, the donation is truly magnified. We hope to help several hundred more children through this campaign.“
“All of us at Beds for Kids are excited once again for our Ashley friends to spotlight this need. The gift of good sleep adds so much to a child’s life, from health benefits to improved learning and social skills. We are grateful for all the efforts Ashley HomeStore extends to help us succeed in our mission,” remarked Daniel Fogarty, Executive Director, Beds for Kids.
“We also invite our community to remember Beds for Kids when they have unwanted but usable furniture to donate. We will pick it up, repair and restore it so the receiving families can take pride in having it in their homes. Throughout the year we provide families with a bed for each child, a kitchen table and enough chairs for the entire family to enjoy a meal together, along with other basic furniture. Many of their homes also need lamps so the school-age children can study at home,” Fogarty stated.
